AMH welcomes New Education Center!

Picture of new buildingIt was with great joy and excitement that we opened the doors to our new AMH Education Center and Learning Lab, following the Blessing and grand opening festivities held on November 21, 2009. Msgr. Michael Mulvey, Diocesan Administrator for the Diocese of Austin lead a gathering of 300 volunteers, funders, Board members, staff and residents for the official Blessing of the building followed by a Bar-B-Que Luncheon to honor AMH volunteers and open house. The Order of the Blessing featured readings, songs and heartfelt testimonials from Mike and Christie Aaronson, co-founders of AMH, current residents as well as a beautiful service by Msgr. Mulvey. New AMH buildingTours of the new facility showcased The University of Texas Charter School, a high school program accredited by the State of Texas, to allow clients to complete their high school graduation credits and even their diploma. In addition, this facility also is home to the Child Development Center Lab School where clients as well as individuals from the community may receive training in the latest research-based early childhood information and practices. The Education Center also includes the Life Skills Training Room where clients attend classes on such topics as infant care, lactation, Lamaze, nutrition, health, and wellness. Clients also receive lessons in spirituality, conflict resolution, budgeting, anger management, and other appropriate topics to help them develop the knowledge and skills they will need to successfully transition from AMH to independent living. He has journeyed with us from the very beginning when the home was just a dream. He has guided us through the many joys, struggles and sufferings that a ministry of this importance brings. Msrg. Michael you are a true friend. And thank you to the many people, volunteers, supporters, and donors who made it possible for us to serve Gods people. God bless you.

Graduate of the Maternity Home ProgramGraduate of the Maternity Home Program

AMH is proud to announce the high school graduation of three residents. Cassie, Jasmine and Christy graduated from the Annunciation Maternity Home Campus of The University of Texas University Charter School. Amid family members, teachers, staff, volunteers, and their fellow residents, these three ladies received their high school diplomas and celebrated the closure of a chapter of their lives. The graduation Ceremony was held in the new Education Center and was an uplifting and memorable event. A keynote speech by Dr. Gwen Boyter, Superintendent of the Texas University Charter School reviewed the importance of education, determination and faith, three characteristics that our three graduates understand and have proven over the past year. The obstacles they have faced and overcome are a testament to their strong will and dedication to become independent and successful mothers and leaders in the community.
